PURPOSE/AIM
The purpose of this exhibit is to
1. Review the nodal anatomy and lymphatic drainage pathways of the neck
2. Review the pathophysiology and appearance of abnormal neck nodes
3. Discuss management implications of abnormal nodes in the head and neck cancer patient
CONTENT ORGANIZATION
Learning the anatomy and pathology of the lymph nodes of the neck is often a formidable task for even the most experienced radiologist. We intend to review the anatomy and lymphatic drainage of deep lateral cervical, submental-submandibular, parotid, retropharyngeal and anterior cervical groups as well as the anatomical boundaries that define these groups. Discussion of surgical relevance of abnormal nodes will be presented where appropriate. Presentation of abnormal imaging findings of commonly encountered pathology will be performed.
SUMMARY
The major teaching points of this exhibit are
1. To provide a comprehensive review of the anatomy and lymphatic drainage of the nodal groups of the neck
2. To review the appearance and causes of abnormal lymph nodes in the various nodal groups.
